He recently put his name in the transfer portal. Word on the street is that he’s transferring to Mississippi State in August.

I looked him up and he was penciled as a backup Center for this fall as a FR. Just curious if there was issues off the field or with coaches or if he just wasn’t a good fit.

My friend saw him play in HS and said he was very very good just would need to put on weight and muscle to play in the trenches in the SEC.

He's just not very good at football.

He was abused all spring, I'm surprised he's trying to stay in the SEC. Figured he'd try a lower level like USM.

Smith was truly just way overpowered. Ika (true freshman) made him his b*tch in the spring game. He's simply not strong/big enough to play SEC football. We knew he needed to get bigger once he came in but in a year's time he made little progress there. Dont pay attention to what Paul Jones said on the MSU 247 board, he's just looking at depth chart and we only had 2 centers last year, hence he was default #2. Watch our spring game and you'll see Smith looked really bad.

We're moving Chasen Hines to center (Ed Ingram on his way back) and if Smith stuck around he would have gotten beaten out easily by him.

I was a big fan of Cole Smith coming out of high school. He played nasty and you always want that in a center but he was just overmatched by true SEC size. He looks to be doing all he can just to be about 285 lbs so he gets eaten up by big 320+ nose tackles. He might very well be a good player for MS State in a rebuilding time but LSU is going for championships and they need big uglies all across the line. Chasen Hines is much stronger and better equipped to handle SEC power.

Amazing as it may seem, we shouldn't be giving scholarships to guys who need to put on weight and muscle to play in the trenches of the SEC.
