While changing your MAC ID can be done it is entirely frowned upon and may cause issues in connectivity in the network.
Edit: Here's a basic Control Plane message (just m2m talking)
As you can see I have essentially the entire picture of what the phone is doing, its IP address, the MME it has hit, and the MNC/MCC.
