But since around 08-09 when Zombieland came out, he has been made into some god of comedy

I've got news for you--he was a god of comedy WAY before that came out. We all know his history--SNL, Caddyshack, Stripes, Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, etc. etc. etc.

But he's also just a great guy. He shows up at golf tournaments and goofs with people. He'll join your party at a bar and just hang. He not only seems like an "everyman", he IS an everyman.

I saw a great quote from him recently.

quote:

"I think everyone becomes a jerk for about two years when they become famous. So I give people two years to figure it out and pull it together. But you end up behaving poorly because there's just no training for it. There's nothing your parents ever did, no matter what kind of people they are, because everything just gets different. The information coming to you comes differently, and people treat you differently, sort of, and everything changes for us. So it takes you a little while to figure it out."

He's figured it out.

My favorite quote from him is that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat people in the service industry. (He was talking about his years as a caddy.)

One of my best friends is a writer. He was working as a writer's assistant on Vice Principals at the time and went out in Charleston one weekend with Danny McBride and Walt Goggins, and one of them had Scott Caan with them. They ended up at a bar hanging out with Bill Murray. My friend said that Bill Murray could not have been any cooler to him or any other "nobody" they encountered that night. He also said that Bill Murray was a complete dick to Scott Caan all night because he had no respect for him riding his dad's name to fame

The best Bill Murray story I’ve heard is about him walking up to a random person at a restaurant, swiping a single French fry off their plate and telling them “no one is ever going to believe you”

I think there is a Netflix film about "Bill Murray stories"

He often times just hangs with strangers in Charleston. They was a story where he popped into a dive bar in Austin, TX to hangout. The bartender asked if Bill would like to help out, so Bill started bartending. After that, he went back to the bartender's house for a party. Everyone was hanging out and the party got loud. Eventually the cops were call and Bill talked them into hanging out at the party for a bit.

Exactly.

His SNL group was legit GOAT comedy. He gets a pass on just that alone.

My brother sat at a bar with him after a concert in a small venue and they talked for over an hour and bought each other drinks. My brother said he was just sitting there by himself and he went and sat next to him and they just chatted it up.

I like him a lot more than I used to after that.
