we are putting in a pool and i'm picking out the different features. It will be a salt water pool and wanted the board's thoughts on pool finishes and decking.

The coping we are going with brick and not travertine.

The decking we are likely doing concrete with textured Cool Deck Coating

I'm not sure on the finish of the pool and i'm down to quartz vs pebbletec. any thoughts from pool owners on pros/cons?

We did a plaster finish on ours and it is smooth as it can be. It's only a year old so I can't speak to the longevity of it.

We have travertine coping & decking, we liked the modern look vs. brick. The travertine doesn't get hot at all. My parents have an old school concrete deck and it gets hot as hell in the summer. I don't know anything about Cool Deck.

I have Travertine as well. IMHO it’s well worth the added costs if your budget allows for it.

As blistering hot as the sun and temps are right now mid summer day, the travertine just feels ‘warm’ to the touch. Meanwhile our concrete and pavers away from the pool area will scorch your feet if you step on them. And it makes a nice seamless transition from deck to the actual coping.

I can’t speak for Pebbeltec but it seems nice. We have plaster with no issues (yet) and it’s very smooth.

I have pebbletec cause I wanted the look
Natural and blended with yard
I like that but yes rough at first but smooths our case little one pop off and always vacuuming them up

Idk what I would do next time I really like the look better but get tired of little grains settling in steps corners etc
And it really was rough for first few years not now but you felt it on feet
If the plaster goes with the backyard landscaping I think I would do that

I like the look of pebble tee, but I would go quartz, brick, cool deck for practicality. It’s less trendy and more old school, that’s where I am.

I have pebbletec. It does not stain and is durable. A little rough on the texture but worth it.

I have an oak tree over mine and the acorns leave black spots and streaks. They always wash away, same can’t be said about the white plaster.

For the deck we went with stamped, stained concrete in a buff color. Not too hot on the feet and looks pretty good.

had pool installed last year. We went with quartz due to the builder offering it for the same price as plaster. In order of surface longevity, it is plaster, quartz, then pebbletec. After reading a lot about how pebbletec is "rough", Im glad I went with the quartz. It has a smooth surface with a touch of grit to it. Id say it is much smoother than pebbletec. You can also get quartz in various colors as well.

We also have the Cool Deck coating and enjoy it. Even in 100 degree temps, at most it only gets warm.
