You think it was wrong to root for Japan after what they had just gone through? The devastation of the Earthquake and Tsunami. I know someone from Japan who lived in Sendai prefecture and lost everything. That country need a Women's WC win far more than the U.S. did.

You could say the same thing about the Saints then. Did winning the SB in 2009 make all the pain of Katrina go away? No but it definitely did help.
You can't deny that winning the Super Bowl in 2009 meant more to NOLA than it would've to Indianapolis.
I know a lot of people from NOLA who said that when the Saints won the SB it was the first time since Katrina that they felt like everything could be okay long term. I'm sure a lot of people in Japan felt the same way about their Women's Team winning the Women's WC.

I can also say I genuinely hope that Rapinoe suffers a career ending injury. Not life threatening, but one that will take her off the soccer pitch forever.
