Always wanted to get into gardening. I periodically have to leave for a few weeks so are there any easy to grow plants that are not high maintenance to get my feet wet?

Herbs such as Basil, oregano, thyme, mint (only in a pot as it spreads like wildfire) and rosemary are all super easy. The basil would need to be watered about once a week if no rain but the others can survive a few weeks without water.

I really like Hostas for a bed that’s in the shade. Super easy, look great when you mix different types and they come back every year

Gonna sound like a dick but your question is like me going to Outdoor Board and asking what is a good hunting gun and what game should I shoot at.

You want vegetables? Pretty flowers? Where do you live? Apartment balcony garden? Open field? Florida climate or Arkansas climate?

This is really a great initiative to go green, well, for grass, you do not need to pay much.

My favorite plant! Love how they attract hummingbirds and butterflies. My favorite Lantana is the old Ham & Eggs, makes a huge bush.

lantanas

Lantanas are tough, aesthetic, and attract pollinators.
One major issue though: 1 freeze will kill them dead.
