I'm not a traffic engineer, so can someone explain the benefits of this design as apposed to a straight overpass...

You only have to control the north and southbound lanes via light.
The East and Westbound lands you dont stop.

Yea, I'm sure there is some benefit that makes traffic flow better, but it's not immediately apparent just by looking at the picture. Someone want to explain why this is better?

looks like you don't need arrows because there are no left turns across traffic. one direction is green and other is red or vice versa.

Its cheaper, and more efficient than Cloverleafs.
