I have no problem with them running up the score. But when you are score goal 8-13 on a 13-0 victory, you should probably tone down the victory dances. It's poor sportsmanship.

This. Score as many goals as you can. Nothing wrong with that. Anyone that has every played soccer though, when the game gets like it did, score the goal, go high five your teammates, and get back on your side. They definitely took it over the top on their late game goals.

I mean hell. To some extent, score differential matters in late season college football contests when competing for those playoff spots............and there HAVE been some blowouts.

Alas, I don't think I've ever seen a team that was up by 40 celebrate their next 4 touchdowns like their first 4.

Yeahhhh. Even the Germans, in a WC semifinal game vs another powerhouse team (in name at least) Brazil agreed to tone down their celebrations in the 7-1 shellacking in the 2014 WC.

quote:

In a post-match statement, Mats Hummels said that the German team had decided that they did not want to humiliate the Brazilians during the second half and after the match. Accordingly, the Germans cut theatrics from their goal celebrations; arms were raised but there was no jumping or screaming after scoring.

I didn't watch the women's match yesterday, and celebrating a first ever goal is one thing, but if they were doing a lot of over the top celebrating on goals 5 and up come on, act like you've been there before. Run up the score all you want in group play, there's goal differential at play, but be professional about it.
