Dozing off to late-night TV or sleeping with other lights on may mix up your metabolism and lead to weight gain and even obesity, provocative but preliminary U.S. research suggests.

quote:

Daily exposure to light and darkness helps maintain our 24-hour body clock, which regulates metabolism, sleep-promoting hormones, blood pressure, and other bodily functions. Mounting research suggests disrupting that typical sleep-wake cycle may contribute to poor health, increasing risks for high blood pressure, diabetes, depression and obesity.

quote:

Researchers say the weight gain does not have any correlation with eating multiple doughnuts or cake and cookies before bedtime.

does sleeping with the tv on lead to weight gain or does weight gain make you too lazy to turn the tv off before sleeping?

Muh, I'm to fat and lazy to turn the TV off, but I keep getting fatter because the tv stays on at night.

Another point in favor of the "Obesity is a result of hormone imbalance." camp.

When I was 10 or 11, I let my younger brother use my shoulder as a prop to shoot a rifle (stupid, I know). Ever since then, my ears ring when it is quiet. That, coupled with my mind racing at night, makes it hard to sleep without a TV on. The TV distracts me long enough to fall asleep.
