Dragon Age: Inquisition

I had fun playing it but barely remember a thing about it. An enjoyable but forgettable experience.

That, and a lot of what made the series good was the amazing plot and character dialogue that made you care about what you were doing in the world around you. I could have watched my entire party get obliterated in front of me and would have felt absolutely nothing. If Morrigan, Liliana, Zevran, Sten, or Alistair had been killed off in Origins, I would have torn Ferelden apart looking for the fricker that did it.


Long story short, it just feels dull compared to the original even with all of the massive gameplay upgrades. The game looks and performs great, there's just nothing worthwhile in it, IMO.

Origins is massively different from a gameplay perspective. Tactical combat with auto-attacks and resource management. Much slower-paced overall. 1's story pretty much stands on its own (I also think it's the best of the 3 by far). It shows its age for sure, but I've played through it about 13 times and was still finding new instances and dialogues I had never come across before.

Dragon Age 2 was the first implementation of the combat you're more familiar with in Inquisition, but it was developed and released in less than a year and was honestly just a cash cow and one of the first real downtrends for BioWare.

Some of the story and a couple characters of 2 directly flow into Inquisition, but I wouldn't say you miss out on anything by skipping it. That said, I enjoyed Dragon Age 2 more than Inquisition. For all the rushed shite it was, it still had a more interesting plot to play through.

Best I can recommend is hop on youtube and take a look at some of the Origins gameplay to see if it would be a turnoff for you. If not, I HIGHLY recommend putting Inquisition down immediately and starting Origins. One of my favorite games of all time.

It's heartbreaking to see it happen, because the Hinterlands are the antithesis to everything that makes Inquisition great. Abandoning the game because you're sick of the Hinterlands is like walking out of a restaurant because you ate too many breadsticks.

The problem isn't that the Hinterlands are bad; it's that they're vast but specific in scope. Inquisition is wonderfully varied, and filled with interesting scenarios and locations—most of them not a sort of dull green woodland. Outside of the Hinterlands is the Storm Coast, where you can watch as a dragon fights a giant. Or there's the Fallow Mire, an area built to hold a linear, standalone ghost story separate from the main campaign. There's deserts and beaches and snow and a sort of brighter, greener woodland that's much prettier to look at.
