Any IC in current trucks would need different tranny and rear end gearing. In the end, electric motors have a lot of advantages towing super-heavyweights which is why railroad locomotives use electric motors for locomotion.
This really is beside the issue of electric P/U trucks. Just like cars, the main issue in peoples minds is range and recharging times something that for the vast majority of people is just their last bastion of resistance that allows them a reason to hold onto what they know.
