Punta Cana is terrible honestly. Change your honeymoon to San Jose Del Cabo and you’ll be 1000% safer and much more happy.

We are supposed to go to Punta Cana at the end of September for our honeymoon. My fiancee is freaking out reading all these news storys.

A family member of mine was there last summer and a member of their party passed out and hit his head. They went to the hospital emergency room and the hospital did (or claimed to) a brain scan. The doctor came back with an image of a brain tumor. They said they needed to do emergency surgery.
To make a long story short they opted out of the brain surgery, returned back home and it turned out the hospital back home could not find anything wrong with him and he basically just fainted.
Crazy, shady stuff goes on there.

Punta cana is the cheapest place in the Caribbean for a reason. the water and beaches are nasty, the labor pool is weak and the corruption is rampant.

We just got back Sunday from the Hard Rock Punta Cana. Heard some bad stories out of there while we there even. We made it out alive although I dealt with Montezumas revenge for a few days and just got regular. I drank from the minibar in the room. I would suggest not doing that since it was either that or eating on an excursion while we were off the resort was probably where I went wrong.
We stuck to the hibachi, steakhouse, seafood and Italian restaurants at the resort all week and the food was great and were able to order premium booze at the bars on the beach and by the pools. Stick to what you know and like and I’m sure you’ll be fine
