1st ep was better than expected. Reviews dogged them for building up to Swamp Thing instead of having him around the entire episode. I liked getting to know Alec Holland for a change.

ST looked great at the end though. Abby Cable was good, the villains were a little cardboard. Louisiana was the usual cliche.

Special effects were good for streaming.

Nice to see Tim Russ again.

The good:
The effects were good and the acting was solid.

The bad:
I know it's a fictitious town but frick... Louisiana doesn't have mountains, or even really large hills (as shown in the wide shot of the city as Abby and her friend were arriving). I know it's a bit of a nitpicky thing, but I can't help such a glaring screwup (see also: The Last Ship episode with the drilling rig "off the coast of Louisiana" but there were mountains in the distance).

Another aspect was the bar out in the swamp. Really? Everyone goes to a bar that apparently you can only get to by boat?

The confrontation between Abby and her friend's mother seemed a bit forced.

The story was pretty generic. I can already see that the old man who spoke up is going to be the person paying for the injection cases to be planted. The re-imagining of Titans had me expecting better.

I'll keep watching in the hopes this was just setting up for better stories.

It has some work to do, but little things like this shows it has some promise.

There are things to fix... as someone said there are not many mountains in La. Like most shows, network or not, I'm prepared to give it a season to find its footing. It could be really good.

I don’t remember them saying you had to take a boat. Thousands of waterside bars in the world. Plenty in Louisiana.

I didn’t notice the mountains. They didn’t mention those either. They shoot in the Carolinas, it ain’t gonna be perfect.

Any of you having issues streaming? I can't go a minute without it buffering. It can't be my connection because every other streaming service I have runs with zero issues. I'm thinking it's just the DC Universe app.

Nope. I stream DCU on Roku, PC, and iPhone. No problems.

Saw a report that this will be the only season of Swamp Thing. Nothing on the main entertainment sites though.

How does that happen for a streaming service

It doesn't. They're not renewing it for a second season. They still air the first season and keep it on their service going forward.

The Deuce has been "cancelled", even though the third season hasn't aired yet on HBO. They'll show the third season even though it's not going past that.

Report that North Carolina renegging on their promised tax break for Warner was a big part of the reason for the shutdown and no second season.

Swamp Thing Cancellation Tied to North Carolina Accounting Error
quote:

Movies.com writer John Gholson reports North Carolina promised WarnerMedia a $40 million tax rebate that ended up getting diminished because of a paperwork error. The $40 million would have covered half of the first season's budget, which is estimated to be at $80 million.

The error also reportedly played a factor in the Season 1 production ending early back in April, with the season's episode count trimmed from 13 to 10. Once the error was discovered, WarnerMedia shut down production since the studio would be paying more for the series than it originally thought.

With North Carolina's adjusted tax break now sitting around $13 million, it doesn't make financial sense for WarnerMedia to continue producing Swamp Thing.

So Warner was going to be an extra $27 Million out of pocket on a production they'd planned on spending $40 Million on after rebates.

Still seems silly to announce that while you’re still releasing episodes of the show. Just kind of undercuts any possible traction you might get from the series even if you don’t plan to make another season

I don't think they've made any announcements. Word just got out that they weren't doing a second season. I'm sure Wan would be more pissed if they didn't tell him until mid-season that he never had a chance at renewal. The NC budget snafu is an odd situation where they realized they didn't have the money for the series when they were wrapping the first season's production. Usually series have a chance to take off. This one was dead before the first episode aired.

That's not really the same as The Deuce will film an ending for the series.

I have a hard time seeing how season 1 of Swamp Thing given a satisfactory conclusion considering they didn't even shoot 3 of the planned episodes.

My point was that series are cancelled prior to their airing. Unsatisfactory endings are common. This just gives people a reason to second guess Swamp Thing’s finale.

Episode two was on par with the first. This show is great when Swamp Thing is present or when they do the traditional DC stuff. It slows when they get off on tangents about family histories and the locale.

Awesome to see Ian Ziering as Dan "Blue Devil" Cassidy. Hopefully they hit his transformation this season so that we don't miss out on it. These series are at their best when they hit the comic book notes (Titans with Hawk & Dove and Donna Troy, Doom Patrol with Danny the Street and Flex Mentallo).

Getting better. Using Swamp Thing more. Glad they’re keeping him in the dark swamp and interiors.

Plot advancing quicker. Dan Cassidy coming into play.

Swamp Thing looks/sounds perfect.

LSU Sailor Mike pennant sighting in the bar.
