Strikeout rule makes no sense

I’ve always hated it; I would propose one of two changes:
1. Batter awarded first but an out is still recorded
OR
2. Batter returns to the plate with the same count

Or catcher blocks the ball and throws the guy out.

Shouldn’t be an issue at this level.

You will get downvoted but yea I don’t get it. If your stuff is good enough to get a guy to swing and miss on strike 3, I think that should be a dead ball, same would go for a walk.

The offense shouldn’t get the same result as a hit/walk/HBP from a strikeout that gets away.

It's been a part of baseball forever.

I mean so have a lot of other things. Games evolve. There isn’t a single sport in history that operates on the exacts same rules now as it did when it was conceived.

Yes but when you think about it logically it’s absurd. I’m not saying that the batter should just be called out, but there needs to be a middle ground.

Or you could just block the call and make a play....rule works just fine

But why should you have to block the ball if the guy swings and misses?

Why does it work.
You. Struck. Out.
That shouldn’t get you on base with no out recorded.

Apparently just struck

Think about it like this. You have an 0-2 count and no one on base. A wild pitch is thrown. If you simply swing at the wild pitch with no intention of hitting it, you can just run to first base. Meanwhile, if that same thing happens and you don’t swing, you have to stay put, you just get a ball.
We are literally rewarding batter’s for taking awful swings

Wow great find.
So it’s a vestige of earlier iterations of the game and serves no real purpose in modern baseball.
Therefore the run was illegitimate and they should have to finish the game tomorrow.

Leave the rule alone.

Yes, because I'm sure the batter can think of this quick enough with an 0-2 count and a wild pitch to deliberately swing at a wild pitch. It's the strategy on everyone's mind.

I actually like the rule. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense but it is def part of the game and everyone on every team grew up playing with it. It adds other another dimension to the game, which we clearly demonstrated, if you are gonna throw a breaking ball in the dirt, ur catcher has to block it

I doubt anyone on this board ever gave serious thought to changing the rule before last night. Leave it alone, it's part of the game.
