Winning Zion changed everything. Before we had to turn that pile of trash into a star player somehow. Now we only need to turn it into a good supporting cast.
Completely agree, and I'm not sure AD and Zion fit the same timeline for the franchise. I think AD gives people hope that the rebuild can be avoided. I think Zion gives you the real hope of a very soft rebuild using AD to make it happen.
AD is a star, so losing him will hurt some, but that pain has been greatly mitigated with Zion.

Pretty much.
A trade before was predicated on getting Zion and/or getting picks and supporting players.
With Zion in the fold and with Jrue as the veteran leader, we have a lot more options available to us should AD not opt in.
We still wouldn’t get full “star” value for AD but we would be able to get more pieces which are directly useful to us and some additional ones we can either try out or can flip elsewhere for something we can use.
AD returning is the preferred scenario but I see him being dead set on a larger market, desperately chasing the belief that he can get bigger endorsements in a bigger market. Kind of ignoring the fact that he doesn’t have a personality and he looks like a goon.

I mean realistically it could be part of the same timeline. Its different if it was KD, but AD is only 26.
Give Zion roughly 3 years (AD took 3 years to have a MVP caliber season) and AD is 29. Holiday would be 32. Your core would be in their prime or tail prime (Holiday).
