re: China buying Iranian oil as retaliation for trade deal failures--

You didn't even have to follow the link to read this:
quote:
Last week, foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters that China “resolutely opposes” unilateral sanctions on Iran. But until now, there had been little evidence that the Chinese government was encouraging its companies to ignore or evade U.S. sanctions in the interest of maintaining trade with Iran. While Chinese multinationals will likely remain wary of trading with Iran due to the risks posed to their increasingly global businesses, China’s apparent decision to use state-enterprises to purchase at least some Iranian oil represents a direct and significant challenge to U.S. sanctions.

You understand we did not have troops on the ground there until GHWB? (Reagan had troops in Lebanon but that was a different issue.)
You are awfully ignorant sometimes. As someone in the Persian Gulf prior to GHWB, I can state unequivocally that you are wrong. We have had a base in the region for quite some time.

So you think we should lift the sanctions on Iran?

Do ever get tired of sucking China's dick?

I bet Iran looks the other way when the Chinese Muslim vamps are brought up.

Lol. Keep doing it China. All they're doing is empowering the exact type of people they dont like.

Did I imagine the attacks on the ships last week near UAE attributed to Iranians?

I don't care.
I will tell you we have fewer wars with people we trade with than with the ones we try to boycott.
On Iran particularly we were stupid in 1953 to use the CIA to overthrow their elected president under the guise the USSR would take over or something. Even Eisenhower expressed doubt about allowing the CIA to do it.
We were not smart after the students over threw the embassy. That is when we had a real standing to go to war. Carter should have simply started bombing their oil terminals until the hostages were let go. If they had hurt the hostages we should have nuked them.
Now we are simply doing the dirty work of the Saudis and the Israelis.
The idea that we can keep a country so rich from obtaining the bomb--now 80 year old technology--is just foolish. The Pakistanis have it and they are much less stable and have probably sold bombs to countries we do not even know about.
The Persians and the Jews and the Arabs have fought for centuries and always will fight.
It is not our fight.

I want our troops out of the ME altogether to prevent such uncomfortable spots.

Where???
It was called ASU Bahrain when I went. We have had a base there since the British left (early 70's). IIRC, we still have that base.
ETA:
For crying out loud man...it is in the link YOU provided.

This one?
quote:
Te United States operates in Bahrain by means of a Defense Cooperation Agreement signed in 1991,and a Status of Forces Agreement originally signed in 1971.
There are over 7,000 U.S. military personnel based in Bahrain, and the U.S. has maintained a naval presence in the country since 1948.
The U.S. 5th ?eet is based in Bahrain, and patrols an area of responsibility covering the Arabian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, the Red Sea, and the Arabian Sea, including the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal, and the Strait of Bab al Mandeb.

Yes. 1971 predates GHWB by a day or two.
Posted on 5/17/19 at 4:40 pm to jimmy the leg
You are correct.
I amend my statement--except for a navy facility in Bahrain our military presence prior to GHWB was restricted to a Navy presence operating out of Bahrain.
The point remains the same---sellers of ME oil will get it to market regardless of whether the US is there or not.

Are you suggesting cargo ships no longer travel through the Arabian Sea due to the threat posed from Iran?
