Does anyone here work for UP out of Avondale? Just wondering if they’ll be hiring for train crew any time soon.

Stay away from the UP. I work for BNSF and it sucks here too but the UP is gonna be a world of hurt with PSR.
And also dont look for much hiring. Here on BNSF they are furloughing guys because grain has taken a big hit along with the southern transcon

One of my buddies is a conductor for UP and it took 6 years for him not to be furloughed every year for 4-6 months.

It really depends on where you are and what carrier you work for. I work out of Alliance, NE. No one wants to go here so it's pretty easy to hold year round.
Only downside is that if coal keeps sliding the way it is I'll have to move

go to a different church every week and ask if anyone there has pull with union pacific hiring. when you find someone who does, join church and get job.

Yes, watch up.com/careers (i think it's something like that) for train crew. PSR is making the employees money right now in the South. Be ready to travel to Texas though to cover your seniority. Hired out in '11 never was furloughed. Never got forced anywhere until i was an engineer.

good lord...this is so true, PSR sucks. I work for CSX and this has killed our work force. The one good thing is UP will not be under a hedge fund like the other Harrison RR's that went to his method.

I guess railroads are different or regions are different because here in the south, we're just holding our pockets open. A lot of trains dieing and having a lot of recrews. Extra boards are stacked!

I knew a guy that got ran over by a train once.. messed up his left side.. he’s all right now

Rumor has it UP will hire another 1000 trainmen over the next year. Not sure where they will put them but they will hire them. Hope you like Texas. Go to UP.com careers train crew and hire on anything from Houston to Avondale. They are all the same, hire location doesn't matter. The earlier you get in the better.

and satanic RR management will try to fire you for just about anything. It takes a special kind of piece of shite to become a trainmaster

Great Gramps was a railroad man for 52 years before retiring. Started out as a kid and never left.
I’ve got his retirement plaque.
One grandpaw also retired from the railroad as did a great uncle in Monroe. He was the one who’d hammer a nail in the garage wall and tell me that’s where I’d be sleeping. Hanging from the damn nail.
All were pretty tough dudes.
