That's posturing. Especially with the Knicks and Lakers having top four picks, the Pels would be stupid to let the Knicks/Lakers pick a player instead of getting the guy they want.
You also lose leverage on the Knicks to try to use AD as a free agency draw for KD or Kyrie. Plus, AD winds up months from FA by the deadline.
You know you'll get a legit summer offer. You don't know you'll get a good one at the trade deadline.
This is just to try to strengthen negotiating leverage. Hell, basically all the talk about AD staying is leverage.

It's certainly leveraging, but there is no reason for the Pels not to leave it open as an option.
Especially if Griffin is serious about what was reported yesterday by Woj, which is that Griffin is open to seeing this right now as a Toronto and OKC situation depending on how meeting with AD goes in the coming days/weeks.
The Pels hold the cards here.

Trade deadline is a real thing.
Griffin already talked about it as well.
If the offers aren't where they need to be he is willing to take it to February. Which also allows the Pels to see what some of these talents look like in the NBA. Also allows AD to play with Zion and see if it persuades him.

If they don’t get a good offer, I think it’s pretty realistic that they just sit tight. Even if that means Davis isn’t in the arena.

I think that would be the worst thing they could do.
It lowers time for a trading team to recruit AD to stay if he does not make a long term commitment. It pushes him closer to FA, where a lot of the trade suitors can just pick him up for free. AD gets closer to FA, and is freer to telegraph where he'll stay and where he won't.
We'll have to agree to disagree on the wisdom of that move for the Pels.

Nothing. Its already been reported this changes nothing for AD.

knox had a much worse rookie season than BI: -6 BPM!

The problem for you is they like the Lakers stuff even less.
This is going to be non-stop posturing until July. Every team in the league will have an offer or a stake in this.
