Sorry. It's not a good song and is notoriously difficult to sing.

My fricking three year old knows it perfectly.

I would love to hear her thoughts on how gay female soccer players would be treated in Iran.

Look her stance is absurd... but this argument has never made any sense to me: "hey those people have it so much worse than you so quit your bitching"... so because they don't have the worst situation in the world they shouldn't fight for bettering themselves if they perceive some issue?

Again, not singing the national anthem over pay is fricking stupid, but so is the Iran argument

It's not that they don't have it the worst, it's that they quite possibly have it the best.

Then why does she respectfully stand for their anthem?

Because she isn't Iranian and feels like it isn't her place to get involved in their politics? I don't know. Why would Iran care what one American soccer player does?

If she thinks the best is still shite, then why shouldn't she fight to make it even better?

She takes her situation and comfortable life for granted by basically telling the country to frick off.

If someone is going to wear the flag and represent the country voluntarily then I expect them to sing the damn song. If it was such a big deal to her she would refuse to be a part of the team.

I mean I don’t have a problem with him as a poster at all. I just think he has an absolutely horrible take here.

But hey, if everyone agreed on a message board it would be boring as shite.

I'm not saying she's right, but if she feels they aren't getting what they deserve or are being discriminated against, then why shouldn't she protest?

Saying, "Because she still has it better than most others," doesn't really work when you still feel slighted.

If you look at his other recent posts, he seems to be one of the worst poster on whatever board he's on. I never really paid attention to him until this thread.

Unpopular opinion: Everyone takes what people are doing during the anthem way way way too seriously and get upset way too easily

I've legit seen people holding full blown phone conversations during the anthem, not to mention the eaters and beer drinkers.

Also, afaik only the US has this weird obsession with playing the anthem at every sporting event... obviously this is a national team so it should be played, but all this uproar over the anthem started in the NFL, who only put the players on the field for the anthem a decade ago to make the teams and league seem more patriotic... I say you solve all the anthem issues and either stop playing it or just do it before teams in all sports take the field

Then she should protest on her own time. Not while she is wearing the US shirt.

I think her protest is dumb as shite, but she has every right to do it and I applaud her for taking advantage of that right. But doing it in the national team shirt is too far. She should have some respect for the country and those that made this opportunity even possible.

I have no problem with playing it before national team games or even clubs from different nations. I do think we should stop playing it at games between two teams from the same country.

I’d argue this is a popular opinion.

I would prefer everyone stand for the anthem, but kneeling in the NFL doesn’t bother me. You are representing your employer and team there. Not the literal country the anthem is for.

Redneck America would like to have a word with you sir

Maybe it's just the place I live, but anytime any player does anything perceived as disrespectful against the anthem they are spit roasted for it...

Best example: most of this season LSU Hoops had their arms around each other's shoulders during the anthem... there were at least two letters to the editor written and published about how it was disrespectful.

Now I do agree that because it's a national team it's a little different, but still, I don't really care honestly.

And those people are entitled to their opinion.

Millionaire athletes preaching to middle class America by willingly making the anthem about something else other than the country that has granted them their incredible well being was always going to rub people the wrong way.

These people have another 100+ hours in their weeks to protest and fight for what they deem unfair yet they choose the few minutes before a sporting event when we are all supposed to come together.
