the ONE person who could be considered most as the story's true protagonist, hasn't done shite. He hasn't affected the story in any meaningful way.

Uhhh. He was totally there to watch the Unsullied rape a pillage and like totally felt bad about it.
He was also a very key component in showing why Dany chose "fear" as a ruling tactic.

These are super critical scenes to fulfill the D&D vision of GoT.
They'll never let a good story get in the way of a dragon burning KL for 30 minutes straight.

I doubt that happens

That's relevant. Extremely relevant.

Jon's all about the GREATER GOOD. But, and I do get that this is definitely a moral gray area for him (although it IS Westeros, and not 21st century America, and things are a BIT looser in Westeros);
BUT, he does have the cards in his hand. He has to read the game better.
Take one for the team, don't tell her in Winterfell, and swear Bran and Sam to secrecy. Address it with her after they deal with Cersei. Abstain from sex, tell her he needs to focus on battles and strategy until it ends. Or frick her, he didn't grow up with her and they can't have babies, so 'live in sin' for the greater good.

Or later on, when she's still appealing to have sex but gives him the crazy eyes after refusing, and then comes back to him again- again, take one for the team. Deal with it when she doesn't have her finger on the trigger.
At some point, he has to understand that he has to either kill her or frick her, because she's going to have him killed instead.

I think if he never tells her, and instead says he can't be with her, he has to remain in the North but pledges undying loyalty, she takes the Throne and rules well. He either goes with Tormund back north of the Wall with Bran and Sam (and they do fit up there), or he has to kill them for the greater good, because she would go Mad Queen if she ever found out... because they show her reacting to various things that hint she would do exactly what she's doing.

That would have been the 'bittersweet ending' I'd have betted on prior to this season, with Tyrion finding out from Bran during the Winterfell saga, but sitting on it.
Finale would be Jon departing, with Jon and Tyrion sharing a knowing look and a nod.

I thought the Unsullied had no cock & balls?
