Mid City car burglary turns deadly - husband shot, wife killed

An alleged attempted car burglary turned deadly Wednesday night (May 8) when a married couple approached their car as someone went through it, New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said.
A woman was killed, her husband shot in the arm, and the 17-year-old police believe was trying to break into the couple’s car received a graze wound while exchanging fire with the husband. A 17-year-old was in custody Thursday morning after being released from a hospital and faces a charge of second-degree murder, NOPD said.
Countdown until the family of the killer blames the husband for shooting back? For the record, the kid started shooting first.
quote:
Police responded to the shootout shortly after 10 p.m. in the 2700 block of Cleveland Avenue, near South Broad Street. Officers first received a call of a suspicious person in the area, then of shots fired. Ferguson said the woman was shot in the head and died at the hospital. Her husband was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm.
Ferguson said the couple heard their car alarm and went outside to look into it. Outside, they saw a person inside their vehicle. Around that time, another vehicle, which police believe was the intended get-away car, pulled up and someone inside of it, “shouted to, ‘shoot,’" Ferguson said. The juvenile then, “did, in fact, shoot” at the couple," Ferguson said, and the husband returned fire, resulting in the gunfire exchange.
And the kicker.
quote:
Ferguson said the teen had been arrested just last month. He has previously been accused of aggravated assault and of auto burglary, according to Ferguson and Cantrell. “I’m disgusted,” Ferguson said about the shooting. “I’m disheartened. I’m upset. I’m angry. And I’m disappointed.”
quote:
Ferguson emphasized he was “not here today to point any fingers,” but cautioned parents to be aware of where their children are and the public to avoid engaging with someone they believe is committing a crime. “That is what the police (are) for. Let us do our jobs,” Ferguson said. To the community, he added, “If you see something, say something.”

Good luck getting anyone at 911 to pick up.

This will definitely keep the 17 year old from attending summer orientation at his college of choice.

I'm gonna bet that innocent kid was on his way home from the store with a pocket full of Skittles and was just leaving some for the owner of the car.

Aren't 17 year olds now in juvenile Justice system?
If so. This animal will be out at 21?

Sterilize his arse before release. At least that way the scum can’t reproduce between his stays in jail.

Just read law.
As of March 1st non violent 17 year olds are treated as juvenile.
Which might be why he was out.
Next April or so ALL OFFENSES 17 year olds are charged with will be juvenile.
So at least he'll go away.
But doesn't look good for future.

Pretty sure aggravated assault is a violent offense.
