I opened a Montepulciano from Abruzzo. Never knew it was a grape and just thought it was a region. We have a beef stew simmering and CS cab for tonight. Very cheap but good. Washington State is always my go to for American value.

A grape? I also had no idea. A rough and tumble red for hearty dishes, I've always thought. Always thought it was a DOO.

quote:Oddly enough, my introduction to Montepulciano was at a vineyard outside of Austin. Flat Creek. It’s a decent Italian wine, and my favorite grape to order. It’s the best name out there...

quote:I didn't know that either. I started to correct you to tell you that Montepulciano is a picturesque hill town in Tuscany where they make delicious wines with the Sangiovesse grape. I know it is because I was there two years ago. But I looked it up and saw that it is also the name of a grape grown further south in Italy. I have had that wine before but always thought it was a Tuscan wine that couldn't make the cut to be called Vino Nobile de Montepulciano. Now I know. I will have to try another bottle.
