My 2014 Sierra with 5.3 motor has 110k on it and has a bad lifter in it. Dealer want's 5k to rebuild or 9k for a new motor. At this point trying to decide if it's best to move on with something else or rebuild it? Anyone had a similar situation?

Find you a junkyard motor.
Replace.
Sell.
Get new truck.

It's still running just ticks when cold, I could trade it in and dealer probably would never notice but I know it's only a matter of time.

Yes go to a junkyard and replace. Even with the 5.3 gdi they’re plentiful and cheap to find.

Yeah it's the 5.3 with the active fuel management. I'm not a big fan of this as I have take great care and always changed oil on time.

I’d move on.
Remember, after the new engine, everything on that truck is 6 years old and has 110k miles on it. Not worth that big of an investment to me.

Unless you plan on keeping the truck for 5 plus more years.

Huge surprise Goverment Motors truck craps out around 100k.

I thought the litter tick came from the AFM system or incredibly low oil. Did the 14’s have that AFM bullshite?

I used to only own chevys then I had a 09 Silverado and I should have set that piece of shite on fire the dayni got it. GM during the bailout years builts some horrendously shitty vehicles. I thought that was isolated to 08-13 though.

Got a tundra now. Best decision I ever made.

Then I’ve been blessed. I’ve got 150k on my 08 Sierra and that bad boy is kicking with normal maintenance routines.

Bearings go out like clock work every two years, but that’s the extent of extra curricular maintenance.

My 2010 started ticking after sitting at night at about 24,000 Miles. I traded it in shortly after.

I wonder if you could find someone to
Change the lifters and cam only. I wouldn’t put a new engine in that truck.

Take it to Car Max and get an appraisal see what it’s worth.

So your truck is 'ticking' and you're contemplating spending 5-10k to fix it? Out of warranty??? Trade it in and get a Ford bruh.

eta: re-read the OP. sell it.

Find you a baw Fromm Gonzales to junkyard swap it. While he’s in there, DOD delete and drive it for another 300k miles. That’s what kills the newer LS motors.

Yeah I'm going to call around to some local shops tomorrow and see what it would cost to just change lifters and cam.

What I had done. Had a lifter drop. A guy I know said the valve and cam were fine, after taking the top of the motor off and checking. Had the valve remachined in case there were minute abrasions and changed the lifter and put back together. Between 1-2k, mainly for labor.

Do this. I know a guy that does them for under a grand. Can almost guarantee it doesn't need a cam. Just one lifter is bad but might as well change them all.

Your dealer is trying go in dry on you. 9k for a new 5.3? 5K for lifters? There isn't that much labor there. fricking ridiculous.

I drove mine like that for 5 years. Sold it to somebody else in January and it's still going.

That's what you get for buying anything made by GM.
