Never understood why so many people like to rip on Phil Collins and his solo music and especially his version of Genesis. I'm a big Peter Gabriel fan too so it's not about diminishing him at all. I've just never understood the Collins haters out there. The guy has an incredibly powerful voice not to mention being a very good drummer.
Case in point this amazing live version of one of Genesis's most underrated songs in my humble opinion...

Same album, same tour, better song/s
Mama was great, but I like this one. Added bonus of Phil on drums.

quote:I do like some things Collins had his hands on like Lonely Man On The Corner and a few like that, but good grief I could not hate Mama more than I do.

I have been a fan of Phil Collins back to the Gabriel era of Genesis. As a drummer I think he was very under appreciated. He only really started focusing on his vocals and songwriting after PG left the band. He became lead vocalist by default and the song "Squonk" was his defining effort.
The evolution of Genesis from hard core Prog Rockers, to a electronic/pop group after PG left was like two totally different bands. Phil figured out real quick he could do his own thing using the old sounds of Motown as his platform moving him into a very successful top 40 career. I offer "Squonk" for you to consider:
