Don’t know what smart is. All I know is the big book has saved many lives including mine

right or wrong, many people see alcoholics anonymous as simply substituting one co-dependence for another
the other makes you intolerable around everyone else

What town are you in

My original post was prior to this post going from OT bullshite to "shite just got real" hence my following post.
I agree with the above 100%, even if I am not a fan of AA. If it works, it works.

That's not true, Owl. quite a broad brush you're painting.

Congrats to you on being one of the 5% that stays sober after one year of joining AA.
before you ask, those are internal numbers from AA. Those are just not coming out of thin air.

This is why you need to be drunk/high whatever the first time you meet a new person. They will use that as your baseline and will never suspect a thing

Not drunk anymore. Only previous skeletons are three deployments away from my wife and family. Alcohol served its purpose during those times when I came home.

I know the numbers. I’ve done plenty of research and papers on it. Still have never heard that.
I will admit that there is a percentage of people that transition co dependencies from drugs/alcohol/people over to AA/people in AA. But I wouldn’t say that’s a large portion and you saying that “many people” say that is an exaggeration.

I have been clean for years but I should be dead multiple times over
The sad part is, the fact that u still think being an alcoholic is funny tells me u have not even begun the descending on your roller coaster ride yet. Nothing anyone here is going to make u think u got a problem, at least if u a real mf ing addict like I was. Then when u admit u got a problem u will try to manage it, then when that doesn’t work u will accept that u have a problem and instead of hitting bottom u will replace the people and things in your life that remind u that u need to get well and that are okay with ur issues, because they got issues
AA. NA. shite I was the secretary for my NA group for two years and did two speaker meetings. Celebrate recovery. Smart. Rehab. Don’t none of that shite work, until u r ready for it to work. I did it all, multiple times, but I was never done . I liked dope whores too much lol I’ll just keep it 100. I would go to rehab and shite and the second a hot dope whore would hit me up I was off . I ain’t been to a meeting or anything in at least two years, though I’m heavily involved in church. And I want it now I know I can’t use and live. But anything will work when u are ready for it to work. No problem can make u ready
There is nothing I can say that will keep u from eventually going through what I went through. From the health problems that I have to live with for the rest of my life, to the emotional scars that I have from being hurt and hurting those close to me, you’ll go through it all. I can only pray to god to watch over u and protect u so that when u realize u want to live more than u want to use, and u can’t successfully do both, that it’s not too late
God bless my friend

quote:. Congrats on your success story. At the same time I know many ppl who failed. Imo AA does it wrong. I have heard everyone of the ppl that go to them meetings say that they will always be a drunk. That they cannot have one sip of alcohol and they are ruined. I think that is the wrong approach. They approach it from the view that once a drunk always a drunk. That is a failing mentality. You will never beat alcoholism with that thought process. You should say I beat it, I am cured and be proud of it. AA teaches failure and that is wrong imo

Weird flex, but ok
I really wouldn't have a problem with AA if it was not often a court-ordered decision, especially since it is well documented that AA has no better success rate than quitting cold turkey
