Total War: Three Kingdoms

I’m stoked. Total War is what got me hardcore into PC gaming in the first place. Definitely something fresh that hasn’t been done in Total War outside the Warhammer games. New campaign map and factions.

Yes. I’d think at this point, consoles could be viable RTS platforms since you can plug in a keyboard and mouse. It’s the graphical capability though.

This looks like a ton of fun. How are the older versions?

Warhammer 1+2 and Shogun 2 are my favorites. Rome II is ok, but not amazing imo. I never tried Thrones of Britannia.

Rome
Medieval 2
Atilla
Those are the best in the series.

I agree.
I literally have 0 experience with Warhammer table top, but I've played both TW Warhammer games and enjoyed them immensely (additionally I played Dawn of War 3 simply as an RTS game).
Shogun 2 was great, just annoying mid game when almost every faction goes against you. Fall of the Samurai was a great standalone expansion.
Rome II is good post-launch. It was rocky at first.
I bought Thrones of Brittania at launch and loved it. But I totally understand why some had reservations with its $40 price tag and being smaller than other games. Definitely get it on a sale if you held out.
Medieval II probably has the best mods, including LOTR and GOT. If you plan Napoleon or Empire (the game that got me into TW in 2009), get the Darthmods. These go on sale often and for really cheap.

Atilla is immensely underrated.

I picked up a surface go recently so I was looking for games that would work well and incorporate the tablet aspect. Ended up getting Civ5 for really cheap on steam and have been having a blast. I honestly didn't know I was this in to strategy games.
After watching some gameplay on YouTube, this will be my next game.

I didn't bring it up because honestly the game is too dated to really recommend for someone who hasn't played the series imo.

Civ 5 is great. The expansions go on sale often too.

Fair enough.

Game is at 86% on Steam right now. Negative reviews seem to be from people who just suck at the game.

I really enjoyed Medieval and Rome.
But it seemed, especially in Rome most of the battles were siege battles in Cities.
These got old for me.
Do the newer games have more battles in the field.

Go meet them out in the field! I try to do so to prevent damage to my cities and keep public outcry down. I’ll usually only garrison a city with my armies if I’m outnumbered and I need the walls to protect my troops.

I lost a lot of time with the Total Realism mod of the original Rome.
A lot of time...

Civ 5 is amazing. Lots of good mods out there as well.
Steam says I've played 1760 hours or over 73 days -- so how's that for a recommendation?
