What's the most adventurous trip you know of some taking

I know someone who, in the late '60s,rode his motorbike across the Southern border and rode all the way to the Southern tip of South America in Chile.
After getting there, he sold his bike and flew back to the US.

Everyone I’m good friends with works too much, myself included and haven’t really don’t anything wild like that.
Most adventurous thing someone I know has done was took a month off and did the Appalachian Trail.
The little amount of time I take off is spent boozing in the mountains or on a beach.

I want to do that trip myself. Drive across Patagonia.
I'm hoping to do a pecos or devils river trip soon. 5-6 days.

My wife's mother and three of her friends drove deep into Mexico on a birdwatching trip. It's not Everest or anything, but pretty ballsy for the seventies equivalent of soccer moms.

My dad and his buddies grabbed a tree trunk floating in the Mississippi River when they were teens in the 1960s and held onto it while swimming from one side of the river to the other side.
I don't know how they made it across without the weight of their massive balls weighing them down.

Is that even possible? Assume he had to take a ferry or something at one point.
Thought there were no roads through the border area of Panama.

always heard stories about people swimming across the Mississippi. I used to swim in the river as a kid. Thought i'd try to cross it, swam out about 30 feet and said "frick that" and swam back to the bank.

I guess so! No way I'd even get in much less try to swim across.
I didn't believe him when he told me that story but he swears the current wasn't back then what it is today. He said people used to do that all the time back then.

I know a guy that rode his motorcycle around the world, twice. First time on a '48 Indian and the second time on a '60-something Panhead chopper he built.
He also did the entire length of the Road of Bones in Russia, on a Harley Sportster with KTM dirtbike suspension on it.

I know a guy who works as a diesel mechanic 5 months of the year, and his family (wife and two younger boys) take their sailboat various places. One year they sailed the Northwest Passage across Northern Canada and arounfpd parts of Greenland. They stop and spend time in the various villages, hike, climb, raft etc.
They live on the stuff they catch, barter etc.
It's a really sweet boat.

I was planning on going diving with Great White Sharks in South Africa without a cage, but then I got an internship in West Virginia and had to cancel my plans. Plus the South African workers on my family's farm said that I would be safer in the water with sharks than on land since I am white. I'm not sure if they were joking or not.

My brother and his wife took off a couple years ago and ride their motorcycle to the Arctic Circle and back. 28 days on the road.

as a kid i lived within walking distance from the river in st bernard. had friends who lived probably a block from the levee. we swam in the river all the time but, stayed close to the bank because of the horror stories about the speed of the current.

18 of us rented 3 large sailboats out of Miami and sailed around the Bahamas for 10 days. Holy hell that was fun. Caught lobster and fish.

it gets faster and deeper as it approaches the mouth, when I was at LSU a ship collided with a ferry near Luling and it capsized and sunk, they were finding some of the vehicles down river that almost made it to the gulf

yep the destrehan /luling ferry. i remember that. they replaced it with the hale boggs bridge.

yep, it was under construction at the time, don't think it was opened till about'83(?)
