Settle a debate for me. Walk or Sail to Cancun: Could you survive either?

My buddy said he would walk
I think sailing is the sane answer. What says the OT? Assume no experience on the open water

Starting point: Houston
Supplies: Unlimited drinking water and a pistol with 10 rounds, GPS.

Sail in this....straight line from Houston...no hugging the coast.

Or travel on foot.

Sailing might give you a better shot. You'd either be killed or kidnapped on foot.

both would likely lead to you dying on the wrong side of the border.

Unlimited drinking water and 10 bullets aren't gonna do shite when you hit 10' waves in that Mickey Mouse operation of a sailboat you posted.

My mom's cousin had a retirment dream of sailing to the Virgin Islands and living there. He bought a boat and the second day he had it he sank in the Intracoastal Canal. True story.

I'd walk.
I'm pretty dark skinned so without speaking I might look kinda Mexican.

Sailing in small craft, open water, no experience. I'd assume that'd be certain death.
Gimme the fighting chance walking.

I have no idea how to sail. Never done it or learned anything about it other than knowing the most basic concept that wind is pushing the boat. I would sink the boat and drown without a lot of help.

I'll walk.

My mom had a cousin who was a midget (or dwarf, for you PC maniacs) that worked on an offshore rig in the 70s or 80s. He fell off one day and was eaten by a shark.
Also a true story.

If I knew how to sail, that would 100% be the answer.

Cancun is safer than most major US cities.

Unless you actually know wtf you’re doing with a shitty sailboat, you’d have a 5000% better chance walking. It’s not even close.

If you choose to sail, you’ll almost certainly end up dead. If you choose to walk you’d *probably* actually make it all the way to Cancun, where you can relax and sip some margs and telling some Mexican babes about what a stupid fricking thing you just did
