Thanks for the thread 357. A few questions.

1. Which is higher; International Elite or Lvl 10?

2. Difference between JO, Senior, Elite, etc.

3. Are there only a certain amount of people in each?

I'm a swimmer. Our categorization is so much simpler. We have qualifying times for each level... LSC, Zone, Junior, Senior (or just nationals), Olympic Trial, etc.

1. There are different levels in gymnastics Levels 1 and 2 are non competitive. Levels 3 and up are.

Each level up builds onto skills more so than the level before that. Level 6 kids would be doing higher skills/more difficult than level 5. Each level has specific requirements but I won't get into that

Level 10 is the highest non elite level one can go to. This group is where you see the bulk of your NCAA gymnasts. After level 10, there is another level known as "elite" which is the highest level possible.

This is the level that competes at world championships, international competitions and the olympics. This level is much more difficult than level 10. You are competing some of the most difficult skills in the entire world, and the routines are much longer and have stricter requirements. The judging is much harsher too. In elite, its scored very differently. You are scored based off the difficulty of the routine and the execution of it. So you see a D score and E score. Combined is your overall score. The training regimen is dramatically tougher for elite level kids, as they are training 30 hours a week and need to be home schooled.

To qualify to elite you have to hit a certain score in the all around or two events in a elite qualifier.

2. Now you know the difference between JO and Elite. Senior and junior elites are still elites but you cannot compete as a senior until you turn 16 the year of that elite season. Juniors are not allowed to compete at olympics or world championships.

3. There are way less elites than level 10s. Elite is very difficult to qualify for. Its tough on your body for the training regimen. There are a lot of top level 10 kids who are good enough to try to make elite but they have no aspirations to compete internationally so they stay at level 10.
