In my case I won’t even look at a home that has a pool for numerous reasons. Child safety, maintenance, upkeep costs, loss of lawn space, etc

A pool does add value to a home but not nearly the cost to put it in so don't think of it as an investment.
It also limits your market when going to sell. There are more people looking for a house without a pool than with one.
