This is so stupid. This doesn't even matter in this case. Amazon isn't building a fricking store, they were building a distribution center. It being there isn't going to make people stop going to mom and pop shops to order online, they're gonna order online regardless. All this did was prevent millions of dollars and thousands of jobs. Anyone against this is fricking retarded (see AOC and her ilk)

Jesus H. Christ.

I finally get it. What Randy Newman said:

"College men from LSU. Went in dumb, came out dumb too."

What is it with you guys? Seriously, do any of you guys understand cause-and-effect? Can do simple math?

Darn it, my mom just had a medical procedure. The doctor went to LSU. I just know she's gonna die now.

Everyone be sure to remember the important takeaway from this event.

Al fricking Sharpton is the kingmaker of the democrat party.

NO ONE will get the nomination unless they kiss HIS arse.

I'll just let that marinate.

You are dumb.

Her concern shouldn’t be the macroeconomic effects of Amazon.

She was elected to represent the people of her district and she screwed them over due to her false hubris which leads her to believe she is something other than a 29 year old member of the House that should be representing her district.

She is a bafoon.

She must have offered favors in exchange for grades.

She's far too dumb to have an Econ degree from BU

I read your input. You are right when you say "I really don't get this one".

There are a ton of financial illiterates here, too, judging from the downvotes you received for merely writing the truth. Amazon is a monster that is strangling small business and the way the Internet should allow creative new businesses to pop up and offer diversity.

You do understand that Amazon helps small businesses, right? Those products you order arent actually made by Amazon...JUST FYI.

And I'm sure people would be surprised to find out entire distribution centers are kept open, not because the warehouses make sense from a cost perspective (they dont, they lose millions), but because they support too many jobs in rural communities for Amazon to pull the plug on.

Right. If you agree to their terms. It's that or just go out of business altogether.

Know what most opposition against Walmart is? Typical elitism. “Walmart offers goods and services to lower income people at low prices? They should spend their wages in less efficient boutiques like I want them to!”

You're right, I would be surprised to find that out. I don't think I'm going to be surprised though.

I'm gonna have to call my buddy up. Not sure when Amazon started making a profit (they were losing money every year my friend worked there). He said Bezos used to use a certain word, what was it, momentum? Something like that. Basically they just wanted to keep growing no matter what or how. Everyone was getting their real pay in stock options, so everything worked just fine with the late 90's tech boom. They were just starting to work on the warehousing stuff when he left.

In the early days Amazon really didn't care about making a profit though.

So circa 2000-2005 say? That wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Amazon 2019? That would surprise me a lot.

A small business that isn't selling on amazon or ebay is dumb. I know there are exceptions but it is a way to offer goods to a much wider audience.

I'm sure that sounded good in your head.

But what I'm hearing is you want to eviscerate American manufacturing, put Chinese products on the shelves, put Dave's Hardware that has been on Oak Street for 60 years out of business, throwing Dave, Dave's cashier, and the two old guys that work there on the street. If they are lucky, maybe some of them can get jobs as Walmart greeters. I hear they have training classes on how to get food stamps.

Only because someone, somewhere can buy a cheap-arse plastic hose for $4.38 instead of $5.38, you call it good.

Currently work for Amazon, so not relying on your 14-year old, second-hand knowledge.
