MD
A friend has survived cancer multiple times. She’s a flight attendant and was in Paris on a layover. She decided to go downstairs to a coffee shop and had full cardiac arrest and dropped on the street. People were just walking past her thinking she was homeless. A lady noticed the expensive shoes and stopped to help. Fortunately a doctor came by and they got her to a nearby hospital. She now lives with a defibrillater under her armpit. If she didn’t decide to get a coffee she wouldn’t be around today nor would she be around if a woman hadn’t noticed her shoes.

She's slender and tends to lose weight under stress, but no eating disorders.

Jim, give me the Cardiologist initials. There is only one who I do not trust at all.

With all these Gordon McKernan's running around looking for a payday, I can't blame a doc for covering all his bases.
Louisiana needs to crack down on all these PI lawyers.

There is only one IC at STPH that is a scary individual and AN is not the initials. What is this patients family history for arrhythmia's and CAD? If either are prominent then I recommend a holter monitor for the frequency of VT and a CT scan to detect blockages and calcium. A heart cath is very low risk and usually can be done thru the wrist. Good luck.

Had her followup today. Ventricular tachycardia. Cardiologist still wants to do an angiogram. SO is reluctant. As a compromise, cardiologist recommended an arrhthia specialist. That's where things stand right now.
I would recommend Kenneth Civello, an electrophysiologist at Our Lady of the Lake. He did his fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, which is light years more advanced than STPH

Go see Dr. Gremillion at Our Lady of the Lake

I have a little experience in this arena. Get her one a plane to the Cleveland Clinic. Best in the world. They saved my son. I was fortunate but worked at finding out who the best surgeon for that procedure was in the world. All it costs is a plane ticket and hotel. When you leave that facility you will have piece of mind knowing you have been seen by the best in the business and it will be evident quickly after you arrive
I couldn’t agree more - my husband makes the trip to Cleveland Clinic for these very reasons. They saved him when I’m sure he wouldn’t have made it at most hospitals. He sees Dr. Civello at OLOL between follow ups there because Dr. Civello trained there.

Her father had an arythmia. He had an implanted defibrillator but it never went off as long as he lived. She has already had the holter monitor.

A calcium score CT is pretty cheap and if its clean she is likely good. I think some places will do those for $100-200 cash. No insurance needed.
70 bucks at Lakeview. I don't know how much a calcium
score ct actually will show you though or what it means to heart health as it relates to your missus. Maybe those more informed can tell you. Nonetheless, that is pretty cheap if it is effecfive. Good luck amigo.

Jim - just read the full thread. If true VT, or suspected cardiac genetic issue - your choices are Houston Methodist, Mayo, and Cleveland Clinic. Have had a similar experience to yours and those three are the best at deep diagnosis, imaging, genetic screening. You want to go to an EP who sees rare/challenging arrhythmia daily, not once or twice a year. Good luck.

Jim, does your SO have any family history of coronary artery disease? Also, you do not need to send her out of state for care. Ochsner in Metairie is loaded with stud Cardiologists and a great EP Dept. Ty Collins is my fav. Cardiologist.

Get a second opinion.
Do you have good insurance? If so, frick it and go for it. It’s better to not screw around with that kind of thing.

The saga continues. Had her appt with electrophysiolgist. He said, "oh yeah, I have 'em too." He doesn't think she's at risk and plans to treat it conservatively, if at all. Followup in 3 weeks.

I'd seek a 2nd opinion from another electrophysiologist. Make sure it's at a major heart center too. It's worth it.

What’s so bad about these?

Ya pal do not ignore VT. That arrhythmia alone is an indication for an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD).
