The Smollett episode is a laid bare, grotesque bit of corruption. He got caught staging a fake hate crime, got out of it by the insertion of politically powerful people and because he is famous, black, gay, and hates Trump and Trump supporters, and has openly lied throughout.
Everyone knows this. It is about as obvious as anything that’s come down the pipe in a long, long time.
I hope he wins this award. I hope the media showers him with praise and notoriety. I hope celebrities and politicians shout his name and embrace him in front of the nation. I hope pundits defend him.
The people recognize this for what it is and they don’t like it. This looks bad for them. It only helps motivate the good people.
