They've already got it figured out.
Its just a matter of whether they get Quinn or not. If they do, they have to do contracts one way, if they don't, then they won't.

i dont think it takes days to figure out cap space with Loomis.
Quinn & Cook are the last 2 big money guys that we would like to sign. I think the FO is being smart & waiting on Quinn's deal, b/c Cook is in the bag. They'll adjust Cook's deal according to what it takes to get Quinn. We're not sure what Quinn's cap # will be or how many years it will be.
I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.

If he agreed to it one way to save money for quinn, why wouldnt the saints do that regardless in the hopes of adding another player?
Posted on 3/25/19 at 3:57 pm to Lester Earl
I think there are cap shenanigans that the Saints would rather NOT do unless they are getting a guy like Quinn.

You think Cook would turn down more money from NE in favor of coming here?

I think negotiations are over so he can't get higher offers.
Deal is done, its just about structure.

That’s always true. But GENERALLY, once an agreement is done Agents and Teams stick to it because they have to do business together in the future. Notable exceptions like Carlos Boozer happen obviously.
Also, this is all pure speculation on my part based on everything we’ve seen.

That would sever ties between the Saints and Cook's agent as well as the Saints and the Patriots FO if everything that is coming out is true. Teams won't deal in bad faith like that. Cook is a done deal.

I mean Anthony Barr just backed out of a similar “pending” deal

He did, but that's not the norm. The Jets are basically done with his agent now.
It's a gentleman's agreement & if an agent doesn't keep his word...some teams won't even deal with him in the future.
If Cook ends up not signing with us...there will be a lot of hostility between the Saints & Cook's agent. That's the business.
As far as the agent is concerned...it's better to keep your word or you'll find it harder to get fair dollar for your clients in the future. You can also bank that the team you screwed will be bad mouthing you around the league.
It's like accepting a deal with the mob. You can back out if you want, but it comes with consequences.

Like they blackballed Leveon Bell's agent too huh
I dont think the players give a shite about a team's feelings given the current owner/player relationship in the NFL. Ultimately the player is making the call, so the theory of the agent being blackballed by the team is silly.
Barr got $33 mil guaranteed at age 27. This is Cook's last crack at big money. I think it's naive to believe they have any sort of loyalty to a team until the pen hits the paper

Obviously it depends on how much a player is wanted, but this has happened many times. Teams don't like to 'agree to terms' with agents that don't keep their word. 'Agreeing to terms' is trust...'signing a contract' is final.
I can't believe someone as smart as you is even arguing this.

I dont think the idea of an agent being blackballed by a team is silly at all. With the idea of a "legal tampering" window, why would a team ever risk negotiating with an agent that is known for backing out on deals. That would lead to less teams bidding for your player, and in turn less money available to that player. Any smart player would then fire that agent.
The Barr thing is a little bit different because it was during the legal tampering window and he returned to the team that he was previously on. Cook leaving the Saints for the Pats would be a virtual death sentence for that agent.

And you think new England is going to overpay by that much.
New england is not going to give Jared cook more than 9 mil a year.
So why would he back out of a guaranteed 8 mil just to go to the patriots with basically the same offer.
It makes no sense, y'all are just trying to find something to bitch about

Well, there's a big difference between being known for doing it all the time, and doing it on a few specific occasions. I was an agent for 20 years (movie folk, not athletes, but it's the same principle). Your job is to get the most that you can for your employee, the guy you represent. If you can get him a better deal by backing out of another deal you have "in principle" then you do it (generally), even if it means damaging your relationship with the buyer in the short term. The other thing to remember is these agents rep a lot of guys and if they're good at their jobs and have clients people want, those buyers they screw over will eventually lick their wounds and come back to the table for some other asset. It's business, not personal.

Im trying to think of an instance where a player was blackballed due to a player's agent not negotiating in good faith. Good players will always have a home somewhere
The Jets CEO is out here bitching about Anthony Barr and his agent reneging on their deal, all while he just gave Lev Bell $27 mil guaranteed after the Bell camp sat out a full year
It's all conjecture at this point. Until it's signed I just cant say he's coming here guaranteed. If you think thats unreasonable then idk what else to say
Ya why would he go somewhere else for more money? derp
That's the exact reason why he'd entertain a Patriots offer

So is there any real updates yet or still just conjecture in here?
