The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

This is a new docuseries on Netflix about the 2007 disappearance of 3 year old Madeleine McCann. I have watched the first 4 episodes and don't quite get the point of this. I don't think they have introduced anything new. I figured they would have dug up some new revelations or theories or evidence, something. Maybe they have but I know so little about the case that I am not sure what is new.
Curious what everyone thinks, though.
I can definitely see the parents trying to cover up an accidental death but it really doesn't make a lot of sense when you stop and think about it. Making such a huge media ordeal and keeping attention on yourself for months. Where and when would they have hid the body? If they really waited 25 days to move the body, how could they have ever done that without someone seeing, media was on them 24/7.
At the same time, if she was taken, who and why? I would assume anyone who took her killed her very quickly when she became the most famous missing person in the world. In that sense, were the parents so smart to make this such a huge media event? No one could risk being seen with her so I would think the only option would be to kill her, unfortunately.

I'm a firm believer she was kidnapped and sold into sex slavery.
This was really before everyone had a high resolution iphone in their pocket, it was a lot easier to hide in plain sight in 2007. They could've shaved her head and made her dress like a boy and no one would've recognized her.
Sadly, she is most likely dead.

Don't let the /pol board find this thread.

I still find it so hard to accept that children are forced in sex slavery, especially toddlers. I know it happens but I can't wrap my mind around that kind of sickness.

The motives of the producers seem to be all over the place based on few episodes I saw. Basically it shows the penchant the media has for screwing up things instead of helping in cases like this. There's no telling how much time was wasted on the first suspect the media pointed out and how much damage was done when the media turned on the McCanns.
Also add in the gross incompetence of the Portugese police nd you have a tragedy on many levels

Yeah is about as abhorrent as it gets, but sadly it is very real.

I think this is what happened to her. Portugal is just too close to North Africa for this to not be a real possibility.
I know someone whose young son was almost kidnapped in Tunis by a bunch of filthy locals. The knocked her and her husband down, grabbed their five-year old son, and hauled arse. The father chased them down and in a fit of rage severely beat one of the guys to an inch of his life (the other cowards ran away). He then took his son back to the consulate and left the country.
They were only there for one freaking day and this shite happened.

Parents probably didn't do anything but man were they negligent to just leave their kids alone like that to go eat and get drunk.

the theory that the parents did it defies logic. there are SO many reasons why this couldn't work
the first being the conspiracy with the other parents. how many of your kind of good friends would participate in a conspiracy to cover up the death of your child? or the fact that they orchestrated this amazing coverup in a place where they were on vacation. it would be difficult for any of us to pull off a caper in our current city, let alone in a place we were unfamiliar with.

there aren't many logical, simple answers
human trafficking makes a lot less sense given that this case would become major. if you're some lower level ring these are the types of kids you avoid at all costs
my best guess is the child got out, got hit by a car, and some local covered that up

I've also wondered if the child got out and somehow wandered to the water. She could have drowned and been taken out to sea instead of washed ashore. I would need to look at the map again to see how far the water was from their apartment, it doesn't seem likely she would have made it that far before SOMEONE would have seen her.

I just started watching it and the first thing I’m noticing is that the narration is mostly being done by the investigator woman. She’s talking in the definitive about events that she obviously was not present to observe. I have a problem with that.
This doesn’t seem like a responsible documentary. The investigator should tell the story by attributing the source of the information, either from testimony or physical evidence, as she is providing the information.

I thought the show was great and a must watch for every episode as they delve into the different theory’s.
I was always a firm believer that it was an accidental death that they covered up, but the series changed my mind, into believing she was taken - note: I do believe they sedated the kids aswell, and it’s likely she was killed shortly after the story went global
[spoilers]
The episode which covered the similar cases was chilling especially the incident of the woman doing laundry going downstairs and finding a man standing over her daughter got me, I don’t even have kids yet and it made me sick. Had to watch a comedy after as no way was I going to bed on that.
Also think it was a shame the Spanish PI Agency fricked it for themselves the PI seemed very genuine and atleast some good came from his investigation if not finding Maddie
