I've re-watched the prequels. Compared to the sequels, they are good.

I'm not one of the types that have elevated the prequels to God-status like many have in recent years. Most complaints, especially Plinkett's, are 100% still valid. But compared to Episodes VII and VIII, I've just enjoyed them more. The environments (bad CGI and all) have more appeal, better array of characters, and forced social commentary. Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan and Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine/Sidious are my favorite cast members of this trilogy.

There's crap I still loath, most of it in Episode II; but 10/10 would watch again.

Anyone else revisit these films recently?

They are all Empire quality after Last Jedi.

I also agree. At least you kind of knew what was going on in those movies in the galaxy. It was boring as crap but at least you could visualize it. This new trilogy still doesn’t give us what the Hells going on. It’s almost like why should we even care? Oh that’s right I don’t.

I tried to watch the prequels lately. Still dislike them.

The biggest issue with the prequels for me is they are jammed to the hilt with slow, dialogue heavy scenes and all the dialogue sounds like it was written by someone who is not a native English speaker and learned English entirely through cheap, paperback romance novels.

The prequels will forever be at the bottom of the barrel for me due to how deadly boring they get. Sit, talk. Stand, talk. Walk, talk. 5 minute action sequence. 20 minutes of talk. Repeated for 2 plus hours.

Even the stuff I didn't like in the newer movies at least stuff happened and I had a reaction. The prequels...it's death by inertia for me.

I still put TFA over the prequel trilogy. It felt like Star Wars again. Although it’s difficult not letting TLJ drag down TFA.

Episode III is damn good.

Episode II is the most boring film in the franchise. Unwatchably boring.

Episode I isn't as bad as people claim, but it's certainly not as good as III, IV, V, VI or even VII.

So true. They still haven't explained who the first order is and why the republic wasn't fighting them. How is that even possible after 1 movie and an abomination?

The Force Awakens is better than all of the prequels.

The Last Jedi is better than Attack of the Clones.

Hard to determine which is the bottom of the list. On their own, maybe. But TLJ ruined so much more than by just being a terrible film.

Agree 100%.

AOTC is incomprehensibly terrible.

Nope, I don't agree. Ep I and especially II are horrendous films.

The prequels were a spectacular mess, but they had their own weird charm and style.

They certainly weren't good, but they at least had personality and character, even if it was sometimes ridiculous.

The still born turds Disney has shat out have absolutely no charm or anything going for them whatsoever. They are so utterly bland and uninspired and flat out insulting.

The prequels aren’t all bad or good. My list has been:

1) Empire Strikes Back
2) New Hope
3) Revenge of the Sith
4) Return of the Jedi
T5) Attack of the Clones
T5) Rouge One
7) Solo
8) Force Awakens
9) Phantom Menace
10) Last Jedi

Some just have good parts, but aren’t a great movie. Clones is bad for the most part, but the end is pretty good. Rouge One is okay, but the Vader scene may be the best few minutes of the entire franchise. Revenge of the Sith is good, but the fight at the end is great. Force Awakens is okay, a little campy.

Nothing redeemable came from TLJ!

Only compared to I and II. It's still predictable and the climax involves the high ground and NOOOOOOOO!

It is distinctly faster and with less clunky dialogue, but it still gives you tons of talking compared to a quick montage of virtually every Jedi in the galaxy getting killed.

Stuff like the entire plot revolving around a vague dream is just disappointing too. It's at least watchable because it has less of the endless dialogue and exposition compared to the first two, but it's still fairly talky, and the dialogue isn't more compelling.

Anakin turning to the dark side is not believable. He's a good guy one min, the next he's killing younglings. It was poorly handled.

AotC is the worst, by far.

My point is that it's significantly better than the other prequels. There are certainly problems with it, but it doesn't have a Jar Jar-level problem like Phantom Menace weighing it down and is actually enjoyable to watch, unlike Attack of the Clones.

Also, my biggest unpopular Star Wars opinion is that the Obi-Wan - Anakin lightsaber duel is the best in the franchise. The only real downside is that they intercut it with the Yoda-Palpatine fight, which was way worse and less interesting.

The fight straight cut (starts at 1:45)

Nope, Last jedi is infinitely worse. At least AOTC didn’t destroy a legacy character. Sure it had bad dialogue and was ridiculous all the way around but it didn’t just destroy a franchise. I do agree that TPM is better than AOTC.

III is pretty darn good. Great open getting to Grievous' ship, Mace vs. Palpatine, Wooki Planet, Obi Wan vs. Anakin on a lava planet, and then the birth of Vader. It blows away the sequels and also Return of the Jedi.

I can't look at Vader the same way knowing he was the kid whining about how sand gets everywhere and rolling around in flowers. That crappy, sappy love story did a lot to hurt Darth Vader for me.

All the prequels did that to some extent with Vader's character. It took this legendary intimidating badass and put him in some of the weakest, whiniest situations a character can be in.

Yep. They needed to show him gradually doing bad stuff and it getting worse and worse. They tried to do this a little but it never rang true. He was always trying to be 100% a good guy up until he decides to instantly go 100% evil and start killing kids. They needed to show more of a personality transition to go along with his going rouge.

But that's Lucas for you. Good broad ideas, bad detail execution.
