Captain Marvel more than doubled the China debut of Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman ($38 million), becoming the market's top comic book adaptation featuring a woman in the lead role.
That's a good start, but to break $1b it will have to continue. I'm not against it getting to $1b, I actually hope it does, I'm just saying: the movies that break $1b have killed it in China. It's good to see that CM might be able to break through that
ETA: I was incorrect about needing China, cool cool, hopefully CM keeps it up

quote:Not really. You've got 37 films in the Billion Dollar Club. More than half did less than 100 million in China with a few films not getting any play there at all. Alice in Wonderland being one. Star Wars is always terrible there, not that those movies needed much international help.
I'm just saying: the movies that break $1b have killed it in China
ETA: 21 of the 37 made less than 100 million in china. 12 of those 21 made less than 50. 5 of the 37 weren't released there at all.
FWIW, Japan is the only market it's not open in yet. And that's a huge one. Should cross 100 there, too.
