I’m guessing the average yankee from nowhere Wisconsin knows New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Most know Lafayette but they’d pronounce it like the Indiana version. Shreveport is probably 50/50. I think when Hanratty referenced Shreveport and Lake Charles in Catch Me If You Can most of the general audience had never heard of Lake Charles.

Amazing how many people in Texas seem to think Lake Charles/Lafayette is New Orleans’s neighbor.

I’m shocked when I travel the amount of people that don’t know what you’re talking about when you say Baton Rouge.

I generally just say I’m from a town a little north of New Orleans now to avoid the conversation with stupid people

Most would know NO and BR. I'd go with 75% Shreveport. Every other place would be below 30%

I've been up north and was surprised that people did know shreveport. However, if we are speaking of the entire population, including the democrats, then my percentage might be a little high.

I think you could use your example to get an idea. How many cities/towns can you name in Wisconsin? It is a reasonably good example since it is a similar population to LA. I could name 6 off hand but imagine most people would get three based on football, beer and the capital.

Not being a native of LA my guess is the 3 most known are NOLA, BR and Shreveport.

New Orleans is a given. Most people know Baton Rouge exists, but oddly enough, they never seem to know it’s the capital. Very few people give any kind of response when I say I’m from Lafayette. I imagine it falls further off a cliff from there.

Most fans of SEC teams outside the Big 6 know exactly where Shreveport is.

Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison, Racine, Eau Claire.

Could probably name more with some thought but I don't feel like putting in the effort.
