Okay with the penalty, not sure how I feel about that being a red card.
It's a DOGSO. If you call the penalty, you have to show the red.

Yeah, I know.
Just feel like it should be ruled like a challenge in the box. Where as if you challenge for the ball it's only a yellow, where if the handball isn't completely deliberate it should only be a yellow.

ETA: Also sucks for the defender that the ball was going in originally, but the greedy attacking players had to get their goal and were ruled offsides

Beckham and MLS were a little before my time, so I really don't grasp the full impact he had on American Soccer... but irregardless it seems a bit weird to give somebody a statue for only winning two MLS Cups.

Cool looking statue, though.

Beckham coming to MLS when he did accelerated the growth of the league by 5 years, maybe even 10 years. The league was finally starting to expand in 2005 after years of austerity and keeping costs low.

Beckham coming got new interest in the league and greatly increased revenues. I was only 11 when it happened, but I remember it being huge news for a while on ESPN. His influence got better travel conditions across the league and better payment for the low-end players. Then of course more big-name players came to MLS in the years afterward thanks to the DP rule. MLS began to feel like a major league sport for the first time.

His impact off the field has been far greater than on the field, though he was a good player for the Galaxy. He’s also been instrumental in getting a team in Miami, which should be a huge success.

But yeah, I agree it’s a bit weird to give him a statue first when other Galaxy players won a lot more with the team. Cobi Jones, Landon Donovan, and Robbie Keane, to name some. But Beckham is definitely the most universally recognized MLS player ever, and no other single player will probably have as much of an impact on the league as he did.

Wow, after playing a man down for most of the game, Colorado scores in the last minute of stoppage time to tie the game at 3-3.

Just realized the guy who scored it was in short-sleeved, think I found a new favorite player.

Galaxy defense already in 2018 form, as their new CB signing hits a backpass right to CJ Sapong for an easy Chicago goal.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Andre Shinyashiki wins the Rookie of the Year award. He’ll get plenty of minutes with Colorado and he scored goals for fun in college. He supposedly had a great preseason.

Apparently he is Brazilian.
Never would have guessed it with that last name.

Honestly they might as well.

Efrain Alvarez coming on for LA. He’s only 16. Someone tell Gregg to cap him with the last spot on the Gold Cup roster

Holy shite that save from the Chicago GK on Zlatan. That was amazing.

ETA I appreciated Zlatan showing him respect on that.
