This is just stupid and disenginous, there are tons of cool local places, high end restaurants, breweries, etc. Again, I'm not telling you NOLA isn't unique, it is. But to argue Dallas is just a bunch of olive gardens and Applebee's is stupid.

Of course there is. Mangia is a local pizza place in Austin and I've eaten at every pizza place in New Orleans and that is easily the best pizza I've ever had. But in general, most cities in America are full of strip malls, suburbs and chain stores. It's why people visit places like New Orleans, Paris, NYC, Singapore and fly over Omaha, Des Moines, St Louis.
