I'm thinking maybe she knew she could drop it off at a safe haven, but didn't have the sense to know not to just leave it in the yard. Seriously, there are people that stupid.

There are a lot of reasonable options between killing the kid and tossing her in a parking lot.

Giving up a child for adoption, or turning it into a fire station is pretty different than leaving on the ground outside.
