My wife has delivered babies for 13 years. She has yet to see or even hear about a scenario that forces death to the infant for the mother's survival. ZERO cases
Everything that I have read says that this scenario is indeed exceedingly rare.

Is that any consolation to the one woman in ... say hypothetically ... a million who actually DOES need the procedure and will die without it?

You are willing to sacrifice the life of a sentient being who WANTS to live, in order to protect the lives of organisms that have not yet achieved sentience. I am not ... ever.

It is really that simple.

Give me one example of a viable fetus needing to be exterminated before it is delivered in order to save the life of the mother where delivering the viable fetus alive would not accomplish the same thing as far as the mother's health.

Is the baby suspected of planning to murder the mother as soon as it is free of the womb?

You have the input of several physicians telling you, repeatedly, that your "one woman in a million" hypothetical is not viable. Not one in a million. Not one in 10 million. Not one.

Now perhaps if your hypothetical woman is raped by a hypothetical outerspace creature akin to the Xenomorph from "Alien", your hypothetical would have credence.

Shy of that, no.
