Musgraves is completely shunned by country radio and it is a total mystery as to why. Her albums are amazing and this one got a ton of critical acclaim. It was not a surprise at all.
The only thing I wish was that Carlile had won either Song or Record. This is America was a huge pop culture phenomenon and I think that swayed the voting. I wish they had given one of those to the best song, The Joke. Her performance was just insane last night.

Because it's good music with lyrics that have a deeper meaning than the superficial stuff country radio plays.

She definitely doesn't fit the mold of what you would consider radio country - LGBT advocate, openly sings about smoking weed, etc.
She also doesn't make trite, overdone music, for the most part.
