Breeding Dogs

I have a guy who has contacted me about using my black lab as a stud for his yellow female. She has a phenomenal pedigree and OFA hips are good and all!
Question is my stud fee is $700 or Pick of the Liter. The wife wants a new puppy but the guy says he was selling the puppies for $1000 each. If i take the POL he wants the $300 difference. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me is that fair?

Tell him you stud fee is $1,000.00.
Bottom line, a pick of the liter is a pick and no dam way I’d pay a fee if my dog was at stud.

You’re honorable, obviously. A rarity these days and nice to see. I edited my post to say no dice on the $300.00 difference. A pick is a pick.

I own a female that I plan to breed and this dude is being a douche.
Pick or stud fee is self explanatory, I’d tell him if you’re charging $1k for the pups then you personally feel your stud fee should be $1k.
Sounds like he picked your stud for the price and not the right reasons
On another note, I have a female that’s almost 3, has hunted 3 seasons now, has an on/off switch like I’ve never seen, amazing pedigree as well as health certs.
Where are you located? We may can leave this douchebag with no puppies or stud
Edit: I’m only breeding her to keep her bloodline in my family, 4th lab and only the 2nd I’ve wanted to breed, I’m not a breeder, I just really like my current dog and her disposition and would love to keep her bloodline

This all day everyday. He’s trying to make money both ways. I’d tell him find another stud.

This is what the dude said:
"Okay, well I think my wife and I agreed on selling the pups for $1,000 each and if we do then would you guys be okay with paying the difference for the pick of the litter since we would be taking a slight loss on pick of the litter? I really want to make this an enjoyable process for everyone and I hate talking about the financial part of this stuff but I just want everyone to be on the same page with everything and for everyone to be happy in the end. At the end of the day we're doing this for our dogs and the betterment of the breed."

Your answer: “Well, I agree that the financial part can be uncomfortable. However, my stud fee is $700 cash or the pick of the litter. Because, you know, I’m not involved in setting the price for the pups. That’s between your wife and yourself. That being said, $700 cash or POL.”
I’ve had a few studs over the years. It’s a flat fee or a pup. Usually, guys are handing me cash, so I don’t take a pup.
He will ask $1k for his pups but may not get that in the end. Also, that’s none of your business.

Well, actually, the first thing wrong is he needs to tell his wife to get back in the kitchen and let him handle the breeding of his dog.

Upon reflection, I may just take the money up front to be done with him. I wouldn’t have to worry that his wife is in his ear for 60 days screwing up a hand shake.

No way I would take this, this guy isn’t taking a loss. And he must have no problem talking ab financials if he’s pulling this nickel and dime stuff. He’s probably trying to make enough to cover a pup for himself and a buddy, and give a discount t to his buddy’s buddy. I would tell him to kick rocks...

It is his first go around and entrance into dog breeding. But this is also my first time but I'm being helped by my trainer.

Here's my other dilemma. I've been trying to get him studed for almost 4 years and have had no success bc he isn't an MH and he doesn't have an insane pedigree. He is an absolute unreal amazing hunting dog and family dog. I don't want to end up with him dying and me never being able to carry on his legacy. He literally is one of the most beautiful labs I've ever seen. I just got lucky with him.

Y’all hash that out?

And you are being helped by the OB Finance Committee. A grand or a pup. Pick of the litter is apparently going to sell for $1000.00 so the stud fee just went up.
Plus you have to host the bitch and be sure they conceive while he’s at home negotiating with his bride.

Take the stud fee. Wait till those last few pups he can’t get rid of and buy one off of him on the cheap, profit
