I've actually read they are a decent amount lower than projected sales. Maybe that was setting a high bar because I know they are doing well, just not as good as was hoped.

Nintendo has announced that it sold 3.19 million Switch consoles last quarter, meaning it’s at 5.07 million units for the financial year so far and 22.86 million since its launch in March 2017. That’s right, folks, the Switch has now outsold the GameCube’s 21.74 million total as well as the Wii U.
The home/portable hybrid console has been a big success, but Nintendo does have an uphill climb if it’s going to meet its own optimistic sales target of 20 million for the year ending March 31st, which remains unchanged. The current holiday quarter will be by far the most important, and last year Nintendo “only” moved 7.23 million units. The company will likely have to almost double that to meet its goals, given that the quarter following the holidays is traditionally very slow.

I’m pretty sure the 3D Pokemon game should put out the numbers, and we’re in all likelihood getting that this year.
But yeah, big disappointment. It’s my most anticipated game on the Switch.

The Switch was inarguably the winner in hardware according to NPD, though, especially in December. In 2018, Nintendo made more money on console hardware than any company had since Sony took 2015 with the PS4. Nintendo's December 2018 Switch sales were higher for that month than any year since 2009--the year Nintendo had another huge December with sales of its Wii console
