There's always been some serious animosity between union and management at this mill, even before Koch bought G-P. I remember many times when the OSHA safety milestones were reached, management would have BBQ pits set up and managers were serving up steaks to the employees for lunch. Some of the Union hard cases would take their plates and made sure the managers were watching as they threw them untouched into the trash.

i worked a shutdown on that mill about 20 years ago or so

Bruh, When GP Management picked that mill for its new premium Quilted Northern product, the union voted AGAINST it.
Know why? They'll sell you a line of bullshite but it was 100% B/C all the operators being assigned to it were getting reclassified and were not given seniority status in the new position, as everyone was being re-trained/tested/assigned.
They threatened a layoff and shutdown so a revote narrowly passed.
