KB could’ve gone in the 3rd round after his jr year but came back for a loaded 2016 roster.
Damn, that sucks...where did he end up getting drafted after the injury?

so how would KB advise Devin White?
probably tell him to make the decision based on what he wants, not what others want

Guice left early, got drafted late in the second round, then got injured before he even got on the field. He could have played this season, had a shot at the playoffs, gotten drafted in the 1st round this year, and not gotten hurt in practice.
Coulda, shoulda, woulda

One of the leading things on a resume is being a team player and thats what KB and DW are

The difference in a second round and third round pick isn't all that much in guaranteed money.
Pretty fair amount actually.
quote:
Middle of the 2nd round in 2016 had a signing bonus of around $1.5MM. Beckwith's bonus for signing in the 3rd was about $750k. He prob lost, at most, a million dollars in guaranteed money.
Umm, that's a lot.
And teams will be more leery of signing him to long term contracts because of injury history.
In terms of financial and professional career success, Devin White has absolutely nothing to gain by coming back and A WHOLE LOT to lose.

$750k isn't that much actually. And your statement painted it as millions, as in multiple millions of dollars.
Just be honest, you thought the signing bonuses were bigger in the second round than they actually are/were

never argued otherwise. Some people make decisions for reasons other than money, however. If White decides to stay, that's what he will be doing. I'm sure he's plenty aware of the risks involved unless he's been living under a rock.

Guice got hurt in preseason, not practice. And talking hypotheticals like you are is stupid. Guice could have come back for his senior year and tore his ACL game 1 just like he did in the NFL this year. Then he probably gets drafted even lower. See how that works?

You're clearly the one with the inside info. Quit making trash threads and come with something tangible.

Possibly. But white is a much better prospect.

Oh really? Because that is exactly what people are doing when they claim that so and so should go pro.
quote:
See how that works?
Yes. I do. Apparently, you don't, however.

No, because that's not the case. I said total career income, not signing bonus income,
I then stated how injury history can hurt a player's career longevity and chances at large long term contracts.
quote:
$750k isn't that much actually.
Yeah, it is. That is objectively a very large sum of money, especially for a player that isn't a super star and might not get a second contract (due to a new injury).

100%
Which means he has far more to lose. His draft stock isn't getting higher if he comes back. At least Beckwith had the argument that he wanted to move into the 1st round.

one isolated injury is not going to affect someone getting a long term deal if they play well on their rookie contract without any injury problems. that's just silly. If said player had multiple injuries throughout his career, sure make that argument. And if that had been the case, he wouldn't have been drafted as high as he was either.
quote:
Yeah, it is.
No, it's not
Again, just admit you were ignorant to what the signing bonus slots were/are. You're now crawfishing hoping your initial argument still holds up. Had Beckwith fallen to the 3rd day of the draft or had he been a lock for a top 20 pick, then yes we could have this talk. He lost very little in the grand scheme, even with the injury he sustained.
