Nebraska built a farm system by over recruiting.

They had "Grey" shirts. Or kids would get "local" scholarships, and go on red shirts.

So once the Seniors left, they had a class of freshman ready, and another one of kids coming in. stacked that talent on talent.

Yeah, there was a state program where one kid from every county in Nebraska would get an academic scholarship to the university. Under Osborne, those scholarships kept going to guys who just so happened to also want to walk on to the football program.
