Yeah, the committee is in a position, knowing that they have four spots, to rank a team on resume rather than on eye test that they might actually believe to be better or worse than their actual ranking. There's a reason the semis are almost always blowouts. I truly believe expanding to any more than 4 teams would bastardize college football to a point that would ruin the game.

well they also adjust rankings to avoid issues like Bama playing UGA in a semi last year

I don't think so. I think auto qualifiers adds far more intrigue when 60 P5 teams have a clearly defined way to make the playoffs.
