A war movie can totally be redone and even enhanced.

Modern visual effects can give a more immersive experience of war than was possible back in those days. The D Day airdrop in Overlord is a good recent example of tech improvements and how they can enhance war sequences.

Just don't go cartoony CGI crazy or screw up the story and acting and you can have a good, respectful updated version that can enhance the battle scenes.

I agree. I don't blame people who don't trust modern Hollywood not to muck up the story, but hopefully that could be avoided. There is a wealth of content there and with a new generation growing up largely without war stories from grandparents, it'd be a good time for it IMO.
